This indicator shows the average number of people enrolled in SNAP benefits each year.

Why is this important?

The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) is a government assistance program managed by the Food and Nutrition Service of the United States Department of Agriculture and administered by the Illinois Department of Human Services.  SNAP benefits help individuals with low income buy food using an Illinois Link Card. The program is designed to combat food insecurity and improve nutrition for those enrolled.
