Orders of Protection

Measurement Period: 2020
This indicator shows the number of newly filed Orders of Protection granted in DuPage County annually.

Why is this important?

An Order of Protection is a court order that is designed to protect victims of domestic violence. It is issued by a judge and prohibits the Respondent (person accused of abuse) from further abusive actions. It is enforceable in all 50 states.

According to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, "domestic violence is the willful intimidation, physical assault, battery, sexual assault, and/or other abusive behavior as part of a systematic pattern of power and control perpetrated by one intimate partner against another. It includes physical violence, sexual violence, psychological violence, and emotional abuse."

If you or someone you know is a victim of domestic abuse, reach out for help by calling the Domestic Violence Hotline at 630-469-5650 (DuPage) or 877-863-6338 (Illinois). Support is available in English and Spanish.
